January 21st, 2021Between the towns of Alessandria and Acqui Terme, in the Piedmont region, there is a estate with one of the most special and unique stories in Italy: the Santa Giustina Abbey and Villa Badia. A fully restored property that still retains the magic and appeal of its 11th century origins.
A complex of impressive architecture composed of two adjacent buildings; Villa Badia and The Abbey of Santa Giustina.
The outdoor area comprises 9 hectares of wonderful gardens. In addition, when walking through one of its impressive courtyards it is impossible not to be dazzled by the imposing architecture of the property, with its reddish brick walls. The Abbey of Santa Giustina, considered a national monument in Italy, has unique elements such as mosaics dating from the 9th and 10th centuries, Renaissance frescoes, or the crypt of the church, which dates from the 7th century.
Next to it is Villa Badia, founded in the 11th century as part of the Abbey of Santa Giustina di Sezzadio and rebuilt in 1600. At the end of the 19th century, the Counts of Frascana made it their private residence, not before renovating it.
This beautiful villa has about 3,100 square meters, its own warehouse of 1,100 square meters and another 11,000 square meters of other types of rural and agricultural buildings arranged around two courtyards. Inside, the floors are the original ones, made of stone and wood. The doors are made up of arches and wrought iron, while a large central staircase leads to the main bedrooms. Summarizing all the characteristics of the Santa Giustina Abbey and Villa Badia, we find a total building of 14,100 square meters. Among them, a villa that has several reception rooms, dining rooms with fireplaces and library; as well as a large professional kitchen, 15 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms. In its surroundings we also find five apartments, each with its own kitchen and idyllic views of the abbey and the gardens.
In addition to an outdoor pool and clay tennis court, this wonderful complex has trails for long walks and a lake where visitors can enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities, as well as events and parties, typical characteristics of Italian’s lifestyle.
